If you are interested in a place in a student residence, we recommend joining the waiting list as early as possible. You can apply once you have decided that you would like to attend the Studienkolleg in Hannover, even before receiving an invitation to the entrance test or an offer of a place. Once you receive final confirmation of a place at the Studienkolleg, send it to the Studentenwerk as soon as possible so that you can be considered for a room.
More information and registration
Unfortunately, there are not enough rooms for everyone, so you should expect long waiting times. Do not rely on getting a place there; look for accommodation through other channels in parallel.
The Deutschlandsemesterticket allows many free journeys within Germany. It is nevertheless important to check exactly which trains and buses you may use free of charge. Information about the ticket’s area of validity can be found on the AStA Hannover website.
The current costs are:
Entrance test: €50
Studienkolleg tuition fee: €350 per semester
Feststellungsprüfung participation fee for external students only: €400
Other costs are set out in §9 of the regulations of the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg.
Other living expenses, including accommodation, clothing, food and drink, amount to at least €700 per month and must be covered by students themselves. Under certain conditions, some students may apply for Schüler-BAföG; please contact the BAföG office for information. Some students receive scholarships from their home country, which must be applied for before leaving the country through the responsible authorities.
The Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg is part of Leibniz University Hannover (LUH), so course participants are also considered members of the university. Participants can apply for reserved places at nurseries. Demand is very high, so you should also apply for public places in the city of Hannover and through parent initiatives. More information is available from the Studentenwerk Hannover.
Information about childcare support is available here.
Emergency childcare at Leibniz-Kids is available free of charge to all university members for a maximum of 10 days per child per year. After consultation, up to 20 days may be possible in exceptional cases. Fluxx emergency childcare is offered by the City of Hannover; a caregiver usually looks after the child at home. The normal cost is €5 per hour. Through cooperation with LUH, university members pay only €3 per hour.
Students at the Studienkolleg are not students in the sense of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). According to the Studienkolleg regulations, they are only treated as equivalent to students under higher-education law. Refugees at the Studienkolleg are therefore not eligible for student BAföG and depend on other support for their living expenses.
The regulations of the Studienkolleg specify, among other things, who is prepared for the Feststellungsprüfung at the Niedersächsisches Studienkolleg, why they are prepared, and how the preparation takes place.

Leibniz University Hannover is a comprehensive university whose profile combines engineering and natural sciences with architecture, law, economics, education and the humanities.
It is named after Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and offers a growing range of international study opportunities.
