Who we are
Studienkolleg Sachsen is a central institution of Leipzig University. As an indispensable interface in the international recruitment and integration process, we make a significant contribution to strengthening the international appeal of Saxony’s universities in the global competition for education. We support the recruitment of highly qualified academic talent for the university location, also with the long-term goal of securing skilled professionals regionally and beyond. Through our work, we promote democracy and an open-minded society.
Originating in 1991 from the former Herder Institute, Studienkolleg Sachsen specialises in language-sensitive subject teaching and in general, academic, subject-specific and vocational language training for international students.
What we do
Our highly qualified teachers prepare applicants with higher education entrance qualifications acquired abroad and international students academically, linguistically and methodologically for studying in Germany, or support them during their academic education. We promote their ability to study — individually, purposefully and sustainably.
Digitally supported forms of work are an integral part of our work. We promote a conscious and critical approach to artificial intelligence. Through targeted networking, especially with the institutions of our university and civil-society actors, we build bridges to the higher-education landscape and society.
How we work
Students from all over the world are at the centre of our work. We treat them with appreciation. We promote their sense of responsibility and critical thinking. We design teaching, learning and support services to take different needs into account. Equal opportunity is a matter of course for us.
Studienkolleg Sachsen is a transcultural space of welcome, encounter and learning. We see linguistic and cultural diversity as an enrichment. Mindfulness, fairness, clarity and reliability shape our relationships — among students and staff alike.
Who we want to be
We see ourselves as a learning organisation. We create a culture characterised by respectful cooperation and active participation. Staff and students are involved as co-creators in decisions about teaching, quality assurance and organisational development. We continuously reflect on our work and further develop our teaching and services on a sound academic basis.
Everyone at Studienkolleg Sachsen takes responsibility for their own personal and professional growth, for quality and for the success of our shared work. As a committed partner in the German higher-education system, we aim to set standards for inclusive, contemporary and effective academic preparation and support for international talent, and thereby help shape the University of Excellence.
